Aromhuset Zero Sugar Concentrate For Pregnancy
Pregnancy is an opportunity to make healthy choices that will benefit both mother and baby, including choosing to switch from sugary drinks to water or 100% fresh fruit juice as your beverages of choice.
As is widely recognized, excessive sugar intake during gestation increases gestational weight gain and obesity risk; what remains less clear is how dietary sugar impacts on pregnancy complications such as preeclampsia, gestational diabetes and premature delivery. According to one Norwegian study, high intakes of sugar-sweetened beverages were associated with higher risks for preeclampsia even when accounting for total energy and carb intake(15).
Reasons behind why these drinks increase pregnancy-related risks could lie in their impact on insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance during gestation. Insulin sensitivity decreases naturally during gestation in order to meet fetal development demands, yet an excessive sugar intake further exasperates this change, leading to impaired glucose tolerance and preeclampsia(28).
Next time you reach for a diet soda or lemonade, stop and think. Not only are these beverages loaded with sugar, they may be low in folic acid and potassium as well as contain laxative compounds known to contain laxative properties. Instead, opt for unsweetened herbal tea or water between meals instead. Also keep in mind that eating high protein snacks like nuts or fruit may help stabilize blood sugar and prevent overeating.
